Tock is an online reservation system through which diners can pay in full or put a deposit down for dinner. It helps make restaurants more efficient (chefs can plan ahead) and cuts down on no-shows from diners. Tock’s approach to reservations is to brand them as an experience, not unlike buying a ticket to a concert—and the Chicago-based company has clearly hit on something, with some 120 restaurants across nine countries currently using Tock. Aside from reservations, Tock offers hospitality tools, sales analytics, communication software for staff, and a service that builds profiles for guests. Tock’s system may have been created for the restaurant industry, but its applications leave it open to other businesses dealing with reservations, including hospitals.
