April 13, 2016 – Rosemont, IL – US Foods announced Wednesday that it has acquired data analytics company, Food Genius. The leading provider of foodservice data, Chicago-based Food Genius offers a suite of technology applications to help drive actionable insights from unstructured data, such as key trends of food ingredients and popular menu items.
“Our core technologies are built for a single purpose, providing consistent and predictable structure on top of what is normally inconsistent datasets in foodservice,” said Jason Felger, CEO of Food Genius. “We’re all very excited to be a part of US Foods’ mission of being first in food!”
US Foods is one of the nation’s largest foodservice distributors, with over 25,000 employees and 60 locations. Its customers include restaurants, healthcare and hospitality entities, and governmental and educational entities. The acquisition creates a powerful partnership, and they are no strangers to working together. US Foods was a longstanding and trusted customer of Food Genius.
Food Genius founder, Justin Massa commented, “What was really striking about US Foods is that they take a very analytics-driven approach to their business.” He added, “This is a great outcome.”
Although US Foods has not commented specifically on how the technology will be used, the Food Genius brand will remain, according to CEO, Jason Felger. Additionally, seven members of the Food Genius team will be joining US Foods.
